about a week ago i posted a rant about the $2,000 move-out bill we'd received from landmark over a year after we'd moved out, explaining the situation and arguing that they had no legal or even moral right to do this.
to my AMAZEMENT, upon calling this morning braced for a battle i was instead met with listening, understanding, some research and the charges were dropped!
WELL. my rant has become a rave of RELIEF.
thank you A*****(i don't want to give out personal info). you seemed to realize that landmark will most likely make more money by spreading a good reputation across whatcom than they ever could through shady tactics of charging good renters.
wanted to share this positive conclusion. and tell the people who sent support emails thank you as well! might not have felt like i had a legitimate argument without the reinforcement.
another quick note for would be renters out there - we did our walkthrus on video. i think this is an easy, powerful way to protect ourselves. consider the camera $2,000 could afford! not like i had it anyways

  1. I'm amazed that you got it resolved!!! So so so happy that you did! I'm still amazed at what they were trying to do! People are crazy...there is so much more I could say...

  2. using a video camera is a perfect idea. We had a similar experience and we had used dated regular still pictures for some damage to a house we moved into. When we left they tried to pin it on us and took us to court, we proved with pic's that we didn't do it. We won. So, great lesson to learn and hopefully your message got to lots of people to help them too. GREAT for you!

  4. i'm SOOO happy too you guys.
the camera thing saved the day having that up our sleeve to threaten them with.
these were posts i'd put on craigslist while super stressed by it an knew i'd be dealing with them. bless my finely honed argumentative skills is right! lol.
i'dve rather gone to court than pay those idiots.

  5. by the way, you should have heard said argumentative skills on the phone!
i went in with guns blazing, fired up. not the least tentative or insecure, letting her know they were preposterous in their claims. i let her have the "craigslist rant," claiming i'd get my lawyer and tell everyone i know how crappy landmark is to try to pull this now, OVER a YEAR later on us good college kid renters. lol.
that whole phase is now completely behind us now. RIP
